According to a source, the famously protective mom gave producer’s of the musical her okay after watching a rough preview of it. Director Kenny Leon, who most recently did the Alicia Keys-produced play Stick Fly, is said to have wanted Shakur’s approval before moving forward.
“The idea was always to make a musical inspired by his music and not to do an autobiographical approach to his life or anything like that,” Leon recently told the Huffington Post. “I’m going to try to bring it to Broadway in the next Broadway season.”
Castings for the musical will be held later this month.
