Believe it or not, it’s been 10 years since the ’90s mega group TLC put out their last album, 3D. However, divas T-Boz and Chilli recently confirmed plans to hit the studio once again.
“We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time,” said T-Boz, who also announced news of a reality show in October.
Since 2002, the group managed to release a few singles here and there, but never a complete album. When asked how their trademark sound will fit into today’s spectrum of pop and dance-heavy music, T-Boz assured fans TLC will remain true to themselves. “We’ve always grown throughout the years and have always had our own sound,” she said. “That’s what works for us and we don’t have to worry about anybody else. When that stops working, maybe we’ll hang up the towel, but that still works. We have to get into the studio and start feeling how we feel. You have to find yourself first then you find the path and then you have an album before you know it.”
Unfortunately, this year also marks the 10th anniversary of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes‘ untimely death. The group told ESSENCE.com earlier this year that people didn’t really understand how much of a heart Left Eye had. “She might have come across as someone who wanted to start trouble all the time, but that wasn’t it; she just had a lot to say,” said Chilli. “Sometimes when you speak what’s on your mind — I’m talking everything on your mind, people can get a misconception of you. So because she spoke her mind, all of the time, it caused people to misjudge her.”
