How I was discovered: My sister is a straight size model and had been trying to persuade me to start modeling for a while. My thought was I’m no where near thin enough to model and I have curves. She started showing me gorgeous curvy models and really sparked my interest. I finally had my sister take some Polaroids of me to submit to agencies. I got positive feed back and signed with my first agency Dorothy Combs Models shortly after that.
I’m currently working on: Building up my portfolio and clients.
My best feature is: My smile.
I’m beautiful because: I’m me and there is no one else out there who who can say that. Our individuality, flaws and quirks are what makes us all beautiful.
My favorite thing to wear to feel special: Is a pretty dress! I’m a girly girl at heart and I always feel special when I have a new dress that fits my curves right. I feel feminine and special.
My beauty routine is: Drinking a ton of water is the first part of my beauty routine. I’m all about organic and natural products. I’m currently using Giovanni Detoxing face wash, scrub and moisturizer. I also use a mask 3-4 times a week; I go between Eminence clear skin probiotic mask and I make my own mask from Bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar.
When it comes to makeup, most days I’m pretty simple. If I have good brows, I’m having a good makeup day. I fill them in with brow powder and set with clear mascara. During the day I just add some mascara and natural shadow––the Chocolate bar palette by Too faced has the best colors for my skin tone and I can use it for day and night looks. Plus it smells like chocolate. Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer during the day and NARS naked foundation at night. Depending on my mood I do a neutral lip; MAC’s “Freckle Toned” with “Spice” liner is my favorite. For a bold lip MAC’s “Hang-Up” with a “Raisin” lip liner and gloss is my go-to.
For my health routine: My number one is water! I drink about a gallon a day. It keeps my skin clear and muscles hydrated and I just feel so much better. I can tell instantly when I haven’t had enough. I try to eat pretty clean. I typically eat clean 70% of the time and “cheat” 30% of the time. After the holiday splurge I’m going to kick it up a notch to 80/20 and do a 3-day juice cleanse to detox my body from all of the yummy, but not healthy, food I ate.
I love working out! I try to hit the gym at least 3 times a week but with my schedule it’s not always possible. I always try to work up a sweat even if it’s a quick circuit in my living room or hotel room. The Stair climber and Spin classes are my go-to cardio before I lift weights.
The best trick to flatter my curves: Wear clothes that highlight my curves! I look for clothes with a little structure, nothing too frumpy and nothing too clingy. SPANX and proper undergarments are a must; they can make a huge difference in how something looks.
My pet peeve when it comes to curvy girl fashion is: I have thick legs and a butt, and my waist is smaller. It can be hard to find dress pants, so I buy a larger size and just have my tailor take in the waist, doesn’t take long and if they are a killer pair of pants, it’s so worth it.
My advice to budding plus size models is: Focus on your inner beauty and confidence first, it’s so important to have a grounded center and self love because rejection and criticism come with the territory. Also remember, don’t stress what you can’t control!
I get into the zone while shooting by: Thinking about positive affirmations that I’m going to rock the shoot before I go. Music is also my thing while shooting to help me get in the zone.
My curvy style icon: I just love Jill Scott, Sophia Vergara and Nene Leaks. They have have amazing and different styles that work for their curves!
My favorite places to shop: I’m loving Rebdolls online right now, their dresses are so cute and uber flattering to curvy figures, and they carry the Grisel line of dresses that I think every curvy girl should try. I also love H&M and Topshop, they are always getting new items that are trendy and won’t break the bank so you can keep your wardrobe updated and fun.
Favorite style blogs: Style My Curvy, Diary of a Fatshionista. I also scroll Pintrest and Instagram when I have an outfit idea or piece, but I don’t know exactly how to execute it.
