The tides are changing as Jay-Z’s new music streaming service was launched today at a star-studded event.
Details about the new music company were given at a news conference in New York during a live stream.
Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Usher and Kanye West were among artists that came out to show their support and involvement in the new venture.
“We come to you with one voice in unity,” artist Alicia Keys said during the event. “The first ever artist owned global music and entertainment platform!”
The service differs from major competitors like Spotify and Apple Beats in that it will be owned by artists, a move that Jay Z says was on purpose.
“The challenge is to get everyone to respect music again, to recognize its value,” he said.
Stars urged fans to “turn the tide” with an overflow of tweets and social media messages today.
Jay Z paid Norwegian company, Aspiro $56 million earlier this month in order to acquire the company.
Tidal will cost $9.99 a month for standard sound quality and $19.99 a month for Lossless High Fidelity sound.
Will you be turning the tide?
