Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has an important message for young women everywhere: Tell your story truthfully.
Speaking at a banquet for the nonprofit Girls Write Now, an organization that inspires young female writers, the award-winning author encouraged the girls to stay honest in their writing with no regard how other people will perceive you.
“Forget about likability,” she said during her speech. “If you start off thinking about being likable, you’re not going to tell your story honesty because you’re going to be so concerned with not offending, and that’s going to ruin your stories.”
