Kim Kardashian West posted a nude selfie on social media Monday morning, which was met with an onslaught of online backlash from fans and other stars.
The following day the reality star took to her website to fire back calling for an end to “the body-shaming and slut-shaming” in a short essay titled “Happy International Women’s Day.”

In the post Kardashian West explains her motivation for sharing the post and stresses that she wants to empower women to fearlessly love their own bodies. “I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world,” she writes.

“I am Kim k”
y’all all really headasses.
What the Twitter reel reveals is a societal problem in which we believe “good girls don’t have sex; bad girls have sex.” In believing so, we contribute to slut-shaming and more expansively rape culture. Women are sexual beings and a Kim Kardashian can coexist with an Ayesha Curry. We shouldn’t berate one for owning her sexuality (whether or not you agree with how she displays it), while praising another for living more conservatively. Let’s not make it any easier for society to tear women down.
