We’ve already waxed poetic about Mented Cosmetics, the Black-owned brand that makes neutral-toned lipsitck for every shade of brown.
Since its launch in Spring 2017, founders (and Harvard Business School graduates!) KJ Miller and Amanda Johnson have been plotting an expansion beyond their creamy lippies and now, they’re ready to take their nude lineup to the next level.
On September 1, Mented will unveil its Gloss for Grown Ups collection; four rich lip gloss shades that can be worn alone or on top of a nude lipstick. Titled “Mauve Over,” Berry Me,” “Baby Brown” and “Send Nudes,” each shade is not only an impressive color match for brown skin; they were formulated to feel good, too.
“I was a hardcore lip gloss fan, but could never really find the right shade or formula,” explains Johnson. “Everything was either too sticky, too shiny, too frosty, or too sheer and didn’t compliment my skin tone,” explains Johnson.
Miller also admits, “I’ve never been a gloss girl – until now. “Our lip gloss is gorgeously pigmented without overdoing it, and I love its slightly sweet taste. Very kissable! Until we launched gloss, I was ready to leave this trend back in high school, where overly shiny lips were all the rage.”
If you’re headed back to school, this is a worthy investment for your dorm room arsenal. Until the glosses launch on September 1, shop the current lineup–nail polish included!–at mentedcosmetics.com and check out the gloss shades below.
