During the 2016 MTV VMAS, when Drake announced he has loved Rihanna ever since he was 22-years-old, I’ll admit I was all for an #AubRih love connection.
Days later, the 6God and the BadGal were spotted with matching tattoos of a shark stuffed animal the rapper gave the singer, and I was absolutely ready to be a guest at their future wedding — fighting to catch the bouquet and everything.
Because Drake and Rihanna are Drake and Rihanna, neither one has ever confirmed their rumored courtship, which has left little hearts like mine pining for word that they are indeed more than just a fling. After Drake’s confession of admiration for RiRi, his dad went on the record to share that there was “no relationship” between his son and the Bajan beauty and they were just friends as they have been “for years.”
But now with the news breaking this week that Aubrey and Robyn have “broken up,” we have to ask—were they ever really an item?
See, to “break up” a couple would actually have to be together and with no confirmation of an actual “relationship” ever on the record, let’s just say that the hit makers have put their flirtationship on hold for now.
According to an E! News insider, “Rihanna and Drake are seeing other people at the moment. They are not exclusive anymore. They still love each other, but their schedules have gotten in the way.”
Rumors have it that Drake has been hooking up with a young model named India Love (whose been linked to the likes of The Game and most recently RiRi’s former fling circa 2014, Cliff Dixon). The E! insider claims “Drake could be hooking up with India Love now to piss off Rihanna, which has clearly worked.”
Because Rihanna is the queen of shade (a woman after my own heart), she took to Instagram to cryptically address what could be her own relationship status to remind everyone that at the end of the day she’s the true prize.
Only time will tell how the friendship between Drake and Rihanna will play out—if a true relationship will blossom or if they will continue to toy with our hearts until the end of forever. Either way, I’m team #AubRih for life.
