JAY-Z hit the stage for the Meadows Music and Arts Festival on Friday in Queens, New York as a part of his current tour. His set included old hits, remixes and new songs off his 4:44 album, and along the way he spoke to the crowd about his music journey. A poignant moment of the show was when he dedicated “The Story of O.J.” to football player, Colin Kaepernick and the late activist and comedian, Dick Gregory.
JAY-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” delves into the irony of being Black in a system of institutionalized oppression.
Kaepernick has been in the news for the past couple of months, as he’s waiting to sign on with an NFL team but has been criticized for his controversial stance against police brutality and civil injustice. In addition to JAY-Z, J. Cole, Cardi B and Chance the Rapper have all spoken out in support of the former San Francisco 49ers player.
Right after the show JAY-Z and his wife, Beyoncé were spotted in the Hamptons vacationing with family. While the pair recently purchased a home in Los Angeles, they still have properties in Manhattan and the Long Island getaway spot.
