Investigations continue as law enforcement officials piece together details behind last week’s Boston Marathon bombing, which took the lives of three people and injured more than 180.
Two brothers — 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed on Friday in an attempt to escape police, and 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, now in police custody — are suspected “terrorists” in the bombings. Both have been residing in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the last 10 years but are originally Chechens from Southern Russia.
“The families of those killed so senselessly deserve answers,” said President Barack Obama from the White House briefing room on Friday night, over an hour after law enforcement apprehended the second suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Capturing 19-year-old Tsarnaev “closed an important chapter in this tragedy,” the President added.
This also closed a week of disturbing events throughout the country — a tragic fertilizer plant explosion in Texas that killed 14 and injured over 200, plus letters testing positive for ricin poison addressed to the President and Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker.
