Raven-Symoné indicates on Twitter that she is a lesbian.
On Friday, the 27-year-old actress tweeted enthusiastically, “I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you,” in response to recent news about more states beginning to legalize gay marriage across the country.
Twitter was abuzz after the starlet tweeted. But many were unsure whether Raven was “coming out” or standing in support of gay marriage.
Soon after, Raven released a written statement saying, “I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to,” she said.
“I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted,” the actress said in her statement.
This is the first time the former child star has addressed speculation about her sexual orientation. In the past, Raven has maintained that her private life is personal and no one’s business.
Just last year, Raven took to Twitter in a series of defensive tweets after a National Enquirer story rumored she was in a relationship with America’s Next Top Model contestant AzMarie Livingston.
“My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m dating to know,” she tweeted. “I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest. I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. and I shall not start now.”
Since her initial tweet on Friday, Raven has received more than 11k retweets from her fans and supporters.
We wish Raven the best.
