News flash: Big, poufy curls, heavy brows and nougat-hued lips are back (need proof? Check out the Tibi and Tracy Reese fall shows), and we believe that the entire trend can easily be traced back to one Ms. Karyn White. For a blazing-hot moment in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Karyn White was one of the hottest R&B/pop singers in the game. In 1988, she dropped her self-titled debut album, which went platinum thanks to LA Reid & Babyface-produced hits like “Superwoman,” and the jam-to-end-all-jams,
“Secret Rendezvous” (please check out the video…she does the Running Man in heels and a bustier). After a few more hits, including 1991’s “Romantic” and “The Way I Feel About You,” White married Terry Lewis and settled down to raise her family. These days, White is remarried and runs a successful real estate business–but we’ll always remember her for her fabulous New Jack-era style. Polkadots and ringlets and brows, oh my! To rock this “Superwoman’s” look at home, accentuate brows with
Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Brunette ($22), slick on a toffee-pink gloss like
Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Bellini ($22), and define your curls with
Living Proof Wave Shaping, Curl Defining No Frizz Styling Cream for Medium to Thick Hair ($14).
