Clemons suffered the stroke on Monday, June 12, and Springsteen fans took to the web praying for a miracle recovery for the musician known as “The Big Man” to all who loved him. On the rocker’s fan site, they posted: “His vital signs are improving. He’s responsive. The next five days will still be critical. But he’s a fighter.”
Clemons has battled many medical problems over the last ten years. He’s had two knee replacements and spinal fusion surgery.
Clemons, 69, brought the rhythm and soul to the E Street Band. He was best known for playing on Springsteen hits like “Born to Run” and “Thunder Road.”
“Clarence lived a wonderful life,” Springsteen said. “He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage.”
