Serena earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Marion Bartoli in her first win since a pulmonary embolism (a blot clot in her lung) and two foot surgeries forced her to take a year off the court.
“Coming back and hearing the claps when I walk out there are moments that I truly missed,” said Serena after the match. “It’s so awesome to be back and to be a part of those moments. I’ve worked hard for that title.”
Serena’s last big win was at Wimbledon in 2010. It looks like she’s ready to reclaim her throne! We wonder if she’ll continue her dominating performance in the U.S. Open this month.
