“Mrs. Long continues to hope that this matter may be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously and fairly; however, she has determined that dismissal of her divorce petition is not appropriate at this time,” her attorney Michael W. Tyler said in a statement.
On Friday morning, Mrs. Long released her initial statement indicating that she had filed for divorce from her husband of 21 years. Later the same day, Mrs. Long issued a second statement withdrawing her petition for divorce. In a baffling third turn of events, her lawyer broke the news late Friday evening stating the divorce was back on.
In the wake of the divorce announcement, Bishop Long told his congregation today that he is “taking time off” from the church to work on his family. Long is the senior pastor and bishop of the New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia, Georgia.
Vanessa Long blamed her original decision to seek divorce on years of “attacks in the media.” Last year, Bishop Long was accused of coercing four men into having sexual relations with him.
We sure hope that Mrs. Long finds peace with whatever course of action she ultimately decides to take.
