Over the weekend, the King family came forward and asked for donations to offset funeral costs. Today, Kali Bowyer, a family representative, confirmed their financial needs have been met, according to the Huffington Post.
Bowyer originally issued a statement on Sunday asking for contributions to a memorial fund. King’s funeral is expected to cost the family more than $22K. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like the family had the money to pay for the service, despite King receiving a $3.8M settlement in 1992, reports TMZ.
The family has arranged for King to be buried on June 30 at Forest Lawn Hall in the Hollywood Hills where homegoing services for Michael Jackson and Don Cornelius were held.
Since the bulk of King’s funeral costs have been met, the family says any extra donations made will be be put toward public service.
The burial itself will be closed to the public.
In related news, Cynthia Kelley, King’s fiancée who found his body at the bottom of his pool, is not invited to King’s funeral.
King reportedly had been drinking and smoking marijuana prior to his drowning. Police are still investigating King’s death and it’s still being called an accident at this time.
