Tyler Perry’s OWN drama The Haves and the Have Nots is a proven hit for the once struggling network.
According to a press release issued today, OWN has ordered an additional 16 episodes starring Tika Sumpter.
The show, which debuted on May 28th, became the highest rated premiere in the network’s history. The series is also the highest rated program among women 25-54. It’s also the number one show among African-American women on Tuesday nights.
The latest round of episodes will begin airing in early 2014.
“Naturally, it is wonderful to have the network’s first scripted series score so resoundingly,” said Sheri Salata, president of OWN. “Tyler’s fans and OWN viewers have responded to this guilty pleasure in record numbers, and we are happy to give them more of a good thing.”
The story follows a wealthy, dysfunctional family, the Cryers, and their unwavering drama that spills over into chaos.
