It’s been quite the summer for actress Kerry Washington. First marriage, then an Emmy nomination — what more can the actress ask for?
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, a very private Washington dished a little on her recent marriage to San Francisco 49er cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, 32, on June 24th in Blaine County, Idaho. “I don’t talk about my personal life in the press, but I will say I’m really happy.” Almost two weeks later came the icing on the cake, the star was nominated for an EMMY for her role as Olivia Pope on Scandal. “I’m the luckiest broad in showbiz,” she gushed, “I just feel really blessed and humbled and grateful for this nomination.” The 36-year-old is the first Black actress to be nominated since Cicely Tyson in 1994.
Washington seems to take neither opportunity –– love and career success for granted, “I’m blessed in all areas of my life,” she said.
Congratulations!
