The Lucky Lady: Tomesha Cleveland, 28, Registered Nurse
Her Leading Man: Carlton Williamson, 33, Financial Risk Analyst
The Big Day: May 24, 2014
Where and how did you meet your man?
It was February 7, 2012. Carlton and I meet at a Young Professionals (YP) of Birmingham social at Metro Prime Steakhouse. Carlton and I had mutual friends whom I was conversing. Carlton came over to the group and spoke to everyone except me. I then said to him, “So you are not going to speak, how rude can you be?” We both laughed. He replied, “So you are little feisty, huh?” Then I said, “I know your mother taught you better than that.” Again, we both laughed and then engaged in a conversation.
What was your past dating history like?
I never had rough break ups. Prior to Carlton, I dated only a few guys, but never one that was as God-fearing, compassionate, loving, and loyal as Carlton.
Were you looking for love at the time?
No, I was not. I shifted my focus on my career and I was working on a non-profit organization I founded the year prior. A wise lady told me a few years ago to keep praying and seeking God and He will send me the man that was created for me.
Did you play hard to get?
No, I didn’t. It was something about him that made me head-over-heels for him initially, which is out of the norm for me.
Describe your most romantic date ever.
Our most romantic date was a few days after my tonsillectomy surgery, which was around New Year’s Eve. Carlton came over and we prepared sushi together and had a picnic on the floor at my house. It was the most romantic date because I couldn’t leave home and he scarified and thought enough of me to spend time with me.
How long did you date before you got engaged?
Carlton and I dated nine months before we got engaged.
How did he pop the question?
On the evening of November 9, 2012, the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team played Sam Houston State in Fayetteville, Arkansas. My brother, who is the assistant coach for the Razorbacks, invited us to the game and my twin nephews’ birthday party. The next day we attended the party. At the end, my brother made an announcement stating, “We have a special presentation.” He and Carlton were whispering to each other. I was wondering what was going on. Carlton went outside and came back in and asked me to come to the front. I don’t remember exactly what he said besides, “Will you marry me?” All I remember was crying and sweating from nervousness while saying, “Yes!”
