Meet Dane Mines, the first female firefighter to ever appear in the New York Fire Department’s famous Calendar of Heroes.
The 11-year FDNY veteran told the New York Daily News that she’s always wanted to appear in the calendar but was told it was not an option for women. This year when she saw the announcement for an open casting call, she decided to go anyway.
“I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me I couldn’t do what I wanted to do,” she said. “I was determined.”
Now you can see Mines showing the men how it’s done as Miss March for the 2015 calendar. In the photo she’s sporting a FDNY tank top, red suspenders, olive pants, and total “Bow Down” confidence.
Mines hopes that her appearance in the calendar will inspire the other 41 female firefighters in the FDNY. “I wanted my picture in the calendar so that young girls and young women can see me and know that they can do this job,” she explains.
You go girl!
