Paramount has released a first look at the upcoming fall biopic, Selma, which portrays Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s fight to pass the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The film recaps King’s struggle to secure voting rights for minorities during the 1965 march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama that led to the passing of the Voting Rights Act. Star David Oyelowo takes the lead bringing the civil rights icon to life on the big screen alongside castmates Carmen Ejogo, who plays Corett Scott King, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Common, Wendell Pierce and Lorraine Toussaint.
The film, which is scheduled for a Christmas Day release, is directed by ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood honoree Ava DuVernay and produced by Winfrey.
