The Walmart surveillance video showing the fatal shooting of John Crawford III has been released to the public after a grand jury declined to press criminal charges against the two police officers involved.
In the video, Crawford walks around with the BB/pellet riffle he picked up from one of the store’s open shelves. Eventually police officers show up and fire at the 22-year-old within seconds of the encounter. The footage counters reports that say he was shot after refusing to put the riffle on the ground. The grand jury was shown the footage during proceedings but refused to indict the policeman. The U.S. Department of Justice’s is currently conducting an independent review.
