Just days after Keisha Knight Pulliam, Bill Cosby’s on-screen daughter, came out in defense of Cosby, the actor’s TV wife has voiced her support in the midst of his sexual assault allegations.
In an interview with Showbiz 411, Phylicia Rashad revealed that she vehemently supports Cosby.
“Forget these women,” she said, referencing the now-23 women who have come forward claiming that The Cosby Show actor sexually assaulted them. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated.”
She said that she believes someone is behind the massacre of Cosby’s career and that she doesn’t understand why that “someone” would want to destroy “the American family.” Their shady intentions have worked, she said, because all of his contracts have been revoked.
Throughout the entire scandal, Cosby has been notoriously silent. Cosby’s wife, Camille, released a statement last month defending her husband. Rashad said that Camille would not stand by her husband and turned a blind eye as her husband assaulted these women.
“This is a tough woman, a smart woman,” Rashad said. “She’s no pushover.”
Rashad’s statement comes just before Cosby is set to appear in Canada this week. The three venues where he is appearing declined to cancel his performances, though protests are expected. However, the comedian’s PR team has released a statement instructing ticketholders on what to do if a disruption erupts during the show.
