Weeks after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub, Bobbi Kristina Brown has been taken out of a medically induced coma.
According to PEOPLE, the 21-year-old’s family has decided to “wean” her off the medication that was keeping her in a coma. The move is to “get a sense of what the patient is able to do for themselves,” says Subhashini Ramesh, a professor of NeuroCritical Care at Georgia Regents University.
Dr. Ramesh is not treating Kristina but did provide his expertise. “Obviously, she did not meet the criteria for brain death if she underwent a tracheostomy,” he says. “She still could have a devastating injury, though.”
Brown remains on a ventilator and feeding tube. Her family is staying hopeful about her condition. “We’re all hoping and praying that this will give us some answers,” the relative says.
