It’s the dress that broke both the Internet.
This week, someone posted a picture of this dress on Tumblr asking a seemingly simple question: What color is this? Half of the responders thought that the dress was white and gold, while others clearly saw that it was blue and black.
And then a war broke out.
In less than 24 hours, the dress completely took over social media. Celebrities weighed in on the hot debate, families were torn apart. Seriously. This is the end of the world as we know it.

In reality, the dress is blue and black, but in the photo, a ray of sunlight is hitting the dress. Some people’s brains compensate for the sunlight, meaning that they recognize that the dress is a slightly washed out blue and black. “Other people are deciding that it is less illumination on a white/gold dress. It is in shadow, but more reflective,” said Cedar Riener, associate professor of psychology at Randolph-Macon College, to Buzzfeed.)
