Bahamian singer Johnny Kemp died suddenly on Thursday, shortly before he was scheduled to perform on the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise. He was 55. His cause of death has not been confirmed, reports The Bahamas Weekly.
“We have received confirmation that Johnny Kemp has passed away,” the Tom Joyner Foundation said in a statement. “We do not have any other details.”
Born in the Bahamas, Kemp grew up singing in various nightclubs before moving to New York City in the late 70s. He rose to stardom with his 1988 hit, “Just Got Paid.”
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
