35 years ago, i-D Magazine launched to serve the youth fashion, music and art enthusiasts in the UK. Since then, the brand and publication has remained on the cutting edge of innovative design, typography and artistic representation of street fashion. A few of their iconic covers feature Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and Leona Lewis but to celebrate their 35th year in the magazine industry, they tapped one of our very own ESSENCE FEST performers to be on the cover: Slick Rick.
Rick the Ruler teamed up with Supreme, the popular NYC streetwear brand to be one of the faces on the (then) up and coming line in 2007. The rare photo used for this cover features the rap legend rocking his iconic gold chains and of course, his staple eye patch. According to various reports, the magazine will be a limited edition release and i-D’s decision to make him the cover star only proves Rick is just as importnat to the culture as he was in the ’80s.
If you’re lucky and happen to purchase one, you just might be able to show it to him from the crowd during his performance at #ESSENCEFEST. Check out the cover, below. Let us know what you think!
Purchase your tickets to see Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh and more on Friday, July 3. Single Night Tickets are still on sale, here.
