Straight Outta Compton is getting rave reviews and may be on its way to making biopic history. But one person isn’t singing the praises of the F. Gary Gray film about the early beginnings of the rap group N.W.A.
Singer and reality TV star Michel’le—who was in a six-year relationship with Dr. Dre from 1990 to 1996—says she hasn’t seen the biopic, but friends told her that neither their relationship nor his history of abuse was featured in the film. “Why would Dre put me in it?” she said. “If they start from where they start from, I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up,” she said.
The R&B Divas star says she endured five black eyes and a broken rib cage from Dre and that he once shot at her.
However, none of the abuse is chronicled in the film. “They’re trying to stay hard, and look like good guys,” said Miche’le.
Asked about the abuse, Dre told Rolling Stone he had “made some f—— horrible mistakes” in his life. “I was young, f—— stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true—some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really f—– up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”
Nonetheless, Michel’le doesn’t seem to be holding any hard feelings as she says that she “absolutely” plans to see the film for herself.
