Don’t sleep on the Smith kids!
In typical Willow Smith fashion, the young ‘Misft’ never fails to fully invite us into her universe of all things beautifully outlandish, trippy and just plain cool.
In her newest video for “Why Don’t You Cry,” the 14-year-old carefree Black girl is at odds with her strict parents (played by Nicole Ari Parker and Duane Martin) because she is an artist.
“This teenage girl wants to be an artist,” Smith told i-D Magazine. “They rip up the invitation to her performance that night, telling her she is never going to succeed in an artistic career and that this kind of behavior isnt acceptable in their household. The girl ignores them and does what her heart is telling her anyway.”
Her voice is strong and maturing, the beat is funky and lively and Willow is of course…Willow.
