1. Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis’ Hug
TV cameras couldn’t have captured a more uplifting moment last night. Taraji and Viola’s powerful embrace seemed to say, “I am here for you, I love you, this is your time to shine!” YES to it all!
2. Viola Davis‘ Acceptance Speech
Every. Single. Word was endearing, supportive and everything that we needed to hear. While accepting her historic victory, Davis celebrated Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Shonda Rhimes, and so many more—all within the same breath. The actress understands that this is not solely a personal achievement, but a win for every Black woman who helps to push boundaries. Viola, congratulations on your accomplishment. It took 67 years to achieve this and you allowed your speech to speak volumes.
3. Oprah’s Congratulatory Tweet
Oprah took to Twitter to tip her hat to Shonda Rhimes, who made making history possible. A personal nod from Oprah is a celebratory moment indeed.
.@shondarhimes Couldn’t have happened without you dear Shonda. Thanks for kicking that door open wide enough for @violadavis to soar thru.
5. Uzo Aduba’s Win
This Orange Is the New Black star’s win was just as amazing as her acceptance speech. Congratulations a thousand times over!
6. Regina King for the Win!
TV veteran Regina King won her very first Emmy for her portrayal of a Black Muslim woman, Aliyah Shaheed, on ABC’s American Crime.
7. The Apple Music Commercial Directed By Ava DuVernay
Starring Kerry Washington, Mary J Blige and Taraji P. Henson and directed by none other than the Ava DuVernay, Apple Music premiered their commercial advertising the new Apple Music playlists. The commercial is totally relatable, absolutely fun to watch and was hands-down one of the best highlights of the Emmy Awards night. Lucky for us, this is only the first of three Ava DuVernay directed Apple Music commercials. The other two should premiere within the week. Keep doin’ it DuVernay! Absolutely proud of you!
