The new Apple Music commercial is like watching you and your girlfriends jamming and bonding over burned CD’s that took forever to make. Remember those?
Only, in this commercial—directed by Ava DuVernay—Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson and Kerry Washington reminisce over the pain it took to create mixtapes. Blige shows off her Apple Music playlist, which creates lists based on your mood. Washington says “it’s like having a boyfriend that makes you a mixtape in your laptop.”
Playlists, the new mixtapes. Go ahead ladies! @maryjblige @kerrywashington @TherealTaraji http://t.co/cctGZAhwuP https://t.co/VTnkmeEr4E

As Slick Rick, Busta Rhymes and old-school Puff Daddy play in the background, the ladies dance, laugh and thoroughly enjoy the “Instant Boyfriend Mixtape Service.” The commercial premiered during the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards and was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of the night.
DuVernay later took to her Twitter to announce that this is only the first of three Apple Music commercials.
Yep, first of three. @AppleMusic rolls them out throughout the week. Loved playing w/ Queens Kerry, Taraji + Mary xo https://t.co/OhBynqoXA0

Leave it to DuVernay to create an Apple Music commercial that is not only totally identifiable but real! Well done.
