The wait is finally over.
Those of who’ve been pining for a new Erykah Badu project since 2010’s New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) will get our musical fix this Friday, November 27, when she releases her new mixtape, BUT YOU CAINT USE MY PHONE
BUT YOU CAINT USE MY PHONE will include the buzzed-about “Cell U Lar Device”—remix of Drake’s Hotline Bling”—and “Phone Down.” The mixtape’s witty title references Badu’s classic single, “Tyrone,” from her 1997 Live album. According to a release, Badu recorded the mixtape in her Dallas, Texas home within a 12-day period. The songstress also invited friends to come over to record in her bedroom studio (that’s so Badu) so we can expect lots of surprise guest appearances.
The mixtape will be available exclusively on iTunes/ Apple Music on November 27, and other streaming services on December 4.
Badu is hosting this year’s Soul Train Awards, airing on Centric this Sunday, November 29 at 8pm ET. She also paid a visit to The Breakfast Club this week where she opened up about her relationship with Andre 3000, their son Seven (he’s now 18), and clear the air about her breakup with Common.
“I tried to break up with him so many times,” she joked. “Ok, I’m exaggerating a little bit. It was just kind of like, we were growing apart. We hadn’t seen each other in a little while. I told him that I needed space.”
