LeVar Burton, who played Kunta Kinte in the original 1977 Roots movie and is an executive producer on the upcoming remake, says now is the best time to revisit the film.
No date is set for the remake, but Burton says, “as far as we have come in the area of race relations and the topics of social justice, fairness and equality, we still have a long way to go,” he told a TV critics’ gathering last week.
According to The Huffington Post, the remake is set to feature cast members like English actor Malachi Kirby as Kunta, and Laurence Fishburne, Anna Paquin and Forest Whitaker.
The remake will air on the History, A&E Network and Lifetime channels.
