Idris Elba took home two Screen Actors Guild awards for the hit Netflix drama Beasts of No Nation and BBC America series Luther.
“I want to tell you man, we made a film about real people and real lives,” Elba said in his acceptance speech for Beasts of No Nation. “To be awarded for it is very special, because a lot of people were damanged through that. So thank you for giving this film some respect and love.
Beasts of No Nation—based on the novel of the same name—tells the story of a sadistic warlord who kidnaps young children and converts them into soldiers during a civil war in a fictional West African country.
Elba also won for Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for the British crime drama Luther. He thanked his children, particularly daughter Issa (his date for the night), and his mother during his acceptance speech.
Congrats, Idris!
