Nyong’o was featured on the cover of the January issue of ESSENCE, where Eclipsed playwright Danai Gurira shared some endearing words about the 33-year-old actress.

Gurira and Eclipsed producer Alia Jones-Harvey initially had the Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress in mind for a different production, but Nyong’o was adamant that this was a project she was passionate about.
The Walking Dead star Gurira told ESSENCE that Nyong’o’s vision of clarity and certainty is a “testament to her character and her roundedness as an artist.”
Eclipsed opens on Sunday, March 6 and runs through June 19.
