OWN’s new church drama, Greenleaf, promises to be yet another TV addiction.
The 13-part series, centered around a Black mega-church in Memphis, stars Oprah Winfrey (in her first scripted TV role in over a decade), Lynn Whitfield and Keith David. It follows Grace Greenleaf (played by Merle Dandridge), a preacher who returns home to her parent’s church after 20 years following the mysterious death of her sister. It soon becomes evident that her parents, Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David) and Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield) had something to do with her sister’s death.
Winfrey—also an executive proudcer—plays Grace’s Aunt Mavis.
Greenleaf premieres Wednesday, June 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN.
