For beauty minimalists, lipstick is not always the first thing that you reach for in our makeup kit. As a beauty editor, I love a good (natural) contour, but purple is not exactly my go to lip color. After watching the American Idol Finale, however, I am seriously reconsidering purple as a lipstick color of choice. This gorgeous matte purple lip has definitely made it’s way to the top of my summer lippie plan. And, as if the lipstick wasn’t enough to make you break a sweat, she paired with a set of uber glam metallic stilleto nails. To say the least, we’re obsessed.
If you’re afraid of rocking a lipstick in such a bright hue, add a little dimension by shadowing the corners of your lips with a lip pencil in a violet hue. If you’re feeling daring or want to experiment with the ombré lip trend, then start by filling in your lips with a lip pencil two shades darker then your lip color of choice and layering the brighter hue over it, concentrating on the center. Finish the look by dusting your lips with a translucent powder. If you’re looking for a lipstick of a similar shade to J Hud’s stellar purple, try BITE Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Spritzer ($26, at sephora.com)
