The former NAACP chapter president appeared on TODAY to discuss the new book she’s working on and to reflect on everything that went down last year.
Rachel Dolezal Admits She Is White, But Continues to Self-Identify as Black
Dolezal admits that she’s still not sure why people questioned her racial identity, which may have been because both of her parents are White and have come forward to say so, but she told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie that she is ready to move past it. “I don’t have any regrets about how I identify. I’m still me and nothing about that has changed.”

The race-swapping former professor of Black studies is also looking forward to the many projects she has planned this year, specifically a book about her experiences and racial identity. “It’s been some work to rebuild and get things back on track with life. We’re doing well. Looking at some new opportunities going into 2016.”
She’s also hoping to get back to teaching and wants to just focus on getting back to racial and social justice work.
“Race is such a contentious issue because of the painful history of racism. Race didn’t create racism, but racism created race.”
