Another New York City summer to remember is just around the corner and now soul music lovers have two more reasons to get excited.
The brand new Coney Island Amphitheater will open its doors for the first time on June 25, which will also serve as the kick off of the Coney Island Board Walk 2016 Summer Concert Series. Reggae artist Ziggy Marley is one of four acts set to grace the stage for the first show in the series, but there’s also two names on the summer line up that are sure to have the 5,000-seat venue packed from top to bottom: Erykah Badu and Jill Scott.
2016 ESSENCE Festival Lineup Revealed
First up, Neo Soul queen Erykah Badu is scheduled for a performance at the new concert venue on August 3. Currently the only artist listed to hit the stage on that day, the multi-talented songstress is sure to have the crowd in a frenzy as she’ll likely run through a set full of her string of hits, in addition to songs from 2015’s But You Can Use My Phone mixtape. While Ms. Badu hasn’t dropped any new music in 2016 just yet, four months time is plenty to add to her stash of fan favorites and have even more new material to perform.
Also representing for the ladies of soul music, Philadelphia’s own Jill Scott is scheduled to bring her Black Girl Magic to the Coney Island Amphitheater stage less than two weeks later on August 14. Miss Jilly from Philly has never been one to disappoint with her live performances, so between a catalogue full of classics, songs from her latest album Woman and the potential of new music always on the horizon, concert goers are surely in for a treat.
