The New York Times reports that a fight broke out at New York City’s Irving Plaza shortly before T.I. was scheduled to take the stage. An assailant opened fired, fatally striking a 33-year-old man in the abdomen and wounding two other men as well as a 26-year-old woman.

Witnesses say that the fight broke out near a private room reserved for rappers, but eventually spread to the dance floor. Once people heard gunshots, they began running toward the exits.
“Right when he was about to go on, I heard two gunshots, and right after, there was a stampede,” Ayo Fagbemi, who was at the venue at the time of the shooting, told the Times. “There were at least three rounds, but after the second one was when people started running.”
