The fourth season of Netflix’s hit series Orange is the New Black is soon to arrive and promises to touch on a topic everyone is talking about–Black Lives Matter.
The Hollywood Reporter details that the show will tackle the much discussed topic with racial tension brewing between the inmates.
OITNB is set in Litchfield, a fictional Women’s Prison facility in which characters are of various backgrounds including African Americans, Latinas and White.
Notable characters, Crazy Eyes, Taystee, Poussey, Sophia, Janae and Black Cindy portrayed by our July 2015 cover stars Emmy winner Uzo Aduba, Broadway’s The Color Purple Star Danielle Brooks, Samira Wiley, Laverne Cox, Vicky Jeudy and Adrienne C. Moore will most certainly play an integral part in telling the story.
“Danger is the underlying theme: Racial tension and danger,” Selenis Leyva, who plays chef Gloria Mendoza, told The Hollywood Reporter. “This season is definitely going to start up conversations that we’re dealing with now.”
OITNB makes its Netflix return June 17.
