Filmmaker John Singleton is tackling the police brutality epidemic from a unique angle in his latest project Rebel.
Set in Oakland, CA, Rebel will center around the story of a Black Oakland police officer who becomes conflicted with her job after her brother is killed by police. Following his death, she decides to take matters into her own hands and investigate to get to the bottom of the killing while also becoming “a champion” for her community, according to Deadline. With her partner on the firing end in the incident leading to her brother’s death and her father blaming her for the loss of his son, the storyline will follow Rebel as she struggles with balancing family loyalty with her allegiance to the police force.
