No matter the destination, packing for a getaway is equal parts exciting and stressful. Although you have free time and new scenery to look forward to, deciding what to bring along for the ride can be overwhelming. And if you’re a makeup junkie, packing turns into The Hunger Games for your products; lipsticks, shadows, creams and more, all vying for space in your carry-on.
If you subscribe to the “less is more” beauty mantra and travel is on your summer calendar, packing just got easier. Travel blogger René Daniella is no stranger to the friendly skies and boasts countless stamps on her passport. Trust us; her tips and tricks will put you at ease before stepping out the door.

BE PREPARED FOR TRANSITIONAL WEATHER
“For me, skin care is one of the most important aspects of my beauty regimen,” says René. “If I’m traveling between warmer and cooler climates…I love to keep raw shea butter with me because it has a small amount of natural SPF in it for beach holidays and is also very moisturizing and hydrating in the colder climates.”
Rene also minds her hair as the climate adjusts by keeping a small tub of creams and butters on hand, including one of her favorite lines–Devacurl. “Also, I always pack bronzer/ highlighter and a variety of lippy shades with my makeup essentials so I can easily go from a daytime to a nighttime look,” she adds.
NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT… COCONUT OIL!
“Coconut oil is so lovely on my body and hair! You can cook with it, remove make up with it, clean your teeth with it (look up oil pulling!) and so on. Seriously, every person should have a jar of it on hand!,” says René, who also swears by NARS red matte lipstick and Folie Face Serum.
“This face serum is so light and moisturizing, you will see a dramatic difference in your skin after a week of using it. Plus, it’s very small and you only need a little at a time, which makes it easy it toss in your bag and take with you everywhere you go.”
BONUS
A go-to look for Essence Festival: If you’re a no-fuss beauty like René, keep your makeup simple and minimal.
“Generally, I don’t wear a ton of make up…especially at a music festival, where I plan to dance my little heart out. Simple, but fun is my go-to. I love a bright colourful eye liner in green or blue and a bold lippy. If I’m feeling a little fancy, then I like to add some colorful eyeshadow, too. I also love to play around with face paints! The looks in Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ video are everything!”
