I am the biggest DIY beauty queen, because well, I love saving my money. And lately I have been on the search for a remedy to cure blackheads for good. You name it, I have tried it – masks, pore strips, baking soda, sugar scrubs — and the list goes on.
For the most part, my skin is pretty good. I didn’t suffer from acne as a teenager, and I have a pretty even complexion throughout my face (see pic below). But sometimes those pesky blackheads just never seem to go away no matter what I try.
Recently, I came across the Instagram page of Dr. Sandra Lee, who is a board certified dematologist in Southern California — or better known as Dr. Pimple Popper. It is like the heavens answered my prayers when I discovered this amazing woman. I found myself watching countless videos of her extracting whiteheads, blackheads and cysts from her patients’ faces. Her secret tool was a comedone extractor. I was astonished — this inexpensive tool was available to me at Ulta for $6.99? I was sold!
Throughout the videos, Dr. Pimple Popper lightly applied pressure to the blackheads and voila, they just popped out! After purchasing the comedone extractor, I followed suit of what I had seen in the videos. At first, nothing happened. I was discouraged, were these things every going to go away?! I decided to apply a little more pressure to my nose and one by one my blackheads were being eliminated right before my eyes. FINALLY, I had the clear skin of a pre-adolescent child. After I finished I put on toner, moisturized my faced and called it a night.
The next day at work several coworkers gave me compliments on how great my skin looked. “Did you get a tan?” “Do you have on make-up?” “Your skin looks great today!”
I was so excited they noticed a difference. The morning after that, my nose started to feel a little tight, but I thought nothing of it. Maybe my pores were shrinking because the blackheads were gone? Two days later, I woke up to horror. My nose was badly bruised; I had applied to much pressure! I went from a blackhead infested nose, to a black and blue bruised nose. I wish someone had warned me.
I am hoping that I will have a flawless nose after the bruising goes away, but for now I have learned my lesson: leave it to the professionals!
