Spelman College is reportedly in talks to consider accepting transgender female students.
The prestigious Atlanta, GA HBCU has been a prominent institution that is currently ranked by Forbes among the top women’s colleges in the nation. In light of the ongoing discussion of inclusion across the board for LGBT and transgender students, Spelman President Mary Schmidt Campbell is assembling a task force to get recommendations on possibly updating the school policy to begin accepting transgender students.

Campbell informed the campus community of the latest developments related to the task force in a welcome back letter sent out last Thursday, according to the AJC.
It doesn’t appear that any immediate changes in the school’s current acceptance policy will be made, but reports from the task force are anticipated to be completed by the end of the school year. Spelman is the latest women’s college in considerations to begin admitting transgender students, with institutions including Barnard College in New York and Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
