In an interview on the Undisputed, Lil Wayne chatted with host Skip Bayless about his cryptic tweets, retirement, and his decision to never work with Birdman again. But, it’s Wayne’s thoughts on racism that has the internet buzzing.
When asked about Colin Kaepernick’s protest and race in America, the Louisiana rapper said, “I have never — and never is a strong word — dealt with racism,” further clarifying that from his perspective, because he’d never experienced it, racism did not exist.
When asked about the predominantly white audiences at his concerts Wayne added, “I don’t want to be bashed, because I don’t want to seem like I’m on the wrong side, but I thought that was clearly a message that there was no such thing as racism.”

In a clip posted by Rellington Beats, Wayne clarifies again, “I don’t know if it’s because of my blessings, but it is my reality. So, I would have to say not only did I thought [sic] it was over, I still believe it’s over — but, obviously, it isn’t.”
Wayne’s views on racism have left many scratching their heads. One Twitter user even pointed out that not long ago, Wayne accused the Oklahoma City Thunder of racism. Sports writer Clarence Hill also pointed out that having grown up in New Orleans, it’s shocking that Wayne is unaware of systemic racism.
How Lil Wayne or anyone else can deny racism exists is beyond us. The proof is everywhere. It’s in Trumps campaign, it’s in the reaction to Colin Kaepernick’s protest, it’s in our laws. Racism is ongoing and Wayne needs to wake up.
