Thirty-two years after the world’s first domain was created, Africa is finally getting its own Internet footprint with a new ‘.africa’ domain name.
Supported by the African Union, the idea is that the domain will unite people and businesses within the continent.
According to BBC, South African company ZA Central Registry spearheaded the campaign, which will now be responsible for registering .africa names. Buying the address will cost as little as $18 (£15) and registration will start in July 2017.

“With .africa, I would say Africa has finally got its digital identity,” said outgoing AU commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Currently, South Africa dominates the amount of Internet users on the continent with 1.1 million out of the 2 million total.
