Africa as a continent is working to expand the access and use of technology one program at a time.
The latest effort comes from Microsoft, which recently launched East Africa’s first #Insider4Good fellowship program.
Open to entrepreneurs in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania, the idea behind the program is to support local businesses that create solutions for issues within the respective communities they serve.

“We are looking for entrepreneurs like you; problem solvers who think deeply about the issues confronting their communities, visionaries who create solutions that could address these issues, and leaders that grow opportunities for their solutions to thrive in the market,” Microsoft said in a statement. “Your work improves the lives of your fellow East Africans and has the potential to impact the world.”
First done in Nigeria, the tech-driven project rewards a six-month mentorship program to those selected, with a week-long bootcamp in Nairobi, Kenya. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to qualify and can apply HERE.
“We see East Africa as a key region where exciting new ideas are growing,” Bambo Sofola, Microsoft’s Director of Software Engineering, told Tech Arena.
“The region is well known as a hotbed of innovation. We look forward to deepening our relationships with these exceptional entrepreneurs across East Africa and to supporting their goals with this Fellowship.”
