R&B singer Ann Marie (Joann Marie Slater) has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man in the head. Records show that she was booked into a Fulton county jail on December 2.
The 25-year-old “Stress Relief” singer has been charged with two felonies—possession of a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The shooting occurred on December 1 at a hotel in the Buckhead section of Atlanta. The officers on the scene reportedly found a semi-responsive man with a gunshot wound. The victim was able to answer a few questions before he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, and most recent reports show that he is in critical condition.
Ann Marie claims that the gun fell off of the table and struck the man in the head as it fell. CBS46 revealed that the singer was “screaming hysterically” and ended up being removed from the room wherein the shooting took place. She also kept asking if the victim was “okay” or if he’d succumbed to his injuries. She told officers that the two had grown up together and were visiting Atlanta by way of their native Chicago.
It is not known at this time if Ann Marie has acquired legal representation. She has been arrested twice before according to HipHopDX—once for simple battery in November 2020 and for driving without a license and speeding in 2018.
Ann Marie is best known for her song “Secret,” a collaboration with YK Osiris, which has 82 million views on YouTube and peaked at 22 on Billboard’s Hot R&B songs. She has been releasing music since 2017 and says that her music is inspired by ’90s hip-hop and R&B artists such as Aaliyah, Lil’ Kim, TLC and Xscape. The singer is currently signed to Interscope Records.
