Fresh off the success of The New Edition Story, BET’s three-part miniseries about the popular R&B group, the network is back with yet another television event for music fans.
From the creative team behind the New Edition film, The Bobby Brown Story is a two-part miniseries about one of R&B’s most infamous bad boys, singer Bobby Brown.
The biopic will reportedly cover Brown’s rise with New Edition, his solo career and marriage to Whitney Houston, and all of the sex, drugs, and musical hits in between.
Woody McClain, who played Brown in The New Edition Story, will reprise his role as Brown in the series. He’ll be joined by an all-star cast, which includes Mekhi Phifer, Lil Rel Howery, Lance Gross, Laz Alonso, Sandi McCree, T.K. Carter and Alyssa Goss.
The Bobby Brown Story will be produced by Jesse Collins and is penned by New Edition Story writer, Abdul Williams. Award-winning filmmaker, Kiel Adrian Scott, is the director.
The New Edition Story was a ratings boom for BET. It brought in 29 million total viewers, a record for the network, and BET is no doubt hoping Brown’s biopic will perform similarly. Judging from the newly released extended trailer, which includes some of Brown’s most outrageous moments, it just might.
The Bobby Brown Story will premiere on BET on September 4 at 9 pm.
